How do I survive the first day of school? What do I do?

How successful your first day will be is contingent upon the initial impression you make upon your students. In order to put your best foot forward, it's the work you do beforehand that will make that first day successful for both you and your students.

Teacher schedule

Teacher schedules consist of the scheduling for the entire year. The teacher should make a copy of each individual quarter to aid the teacher and a substitute should one be used.

Student list

Teachers should receive a student list from the office on or before the first day of school. Teacher might want to consult with other teachers to help with name pronunciation.

Seating charts

New teachers should be given seating plan charts and encouraged to fill them out asap to help them get to know their students by name and location in their classroom.

Plan books

Plan books are mandatory and should be current. They should be picked up on the first day from an administrator.

Rank books

Class lists should be entered into rank books. Teachers might want to wait a week due to student schedule changes during that period of the school year. All grades should be kept current with grades consisting of A 90-100,B+ 85-89, B 80-84,C+ 75-79, C 70-74, D 65-69, F 0-64, Inc. Incomplete. During an emergency or fire drill, teachers should bring their rank books with them.

Classroom supplies

Chalk, white board markers, paper, pencils, red pens, books, erasers, staplers, and other necessary items will be provided by your school. The teacher is responsible for any extra supplies not provided by the district.

Office supplies, cut slips, discipline slips

Teachers should consult with the secretaries for information concerning office forms and procedures.
