The Goals of the Pelham School District Mentoring Program
The goals of the mentoring program are:
- To help orient the beginning teacher to the general culture and environment of the classroom and the school.
- To demonstrate an understanding of the needs of beginning teachers.
- To assist new teachers in locating resources, sharing instructional ideas, following district/school procedures and locating materials for effective teaching.
- To provide informal feedback regarding new teachers’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in line with the standards for each domain of the teaching profession.
- To facilitate access to professional growth opportunities such as seminars, conferences, or observations of experienced teachers for strategies and teaching styles.
- To encourage a collaborative relationship with beginning teachers
- To provide excellent professional role models.
