Mission Statement
In order to ensure high student achievement, it is the mission of The Center for Teacher Mentoring to
- Attract promising, qualified educators
- Develop the professional skills and knowledge of both new and veteran teachers
- Retain highly qualified educators who have the capacity and desire to continue their professional growth
Mentors provide consistent, ongoing, personal and professional guidance to new and veteran teachers
Code of Ethics
Mentors and peer coaches, as visible representatives of the education profession, shall by both word and action, exemplify the highest standards of the profession. As educators, mentors and peer coaches recognize the importance of fairness, truth, and moral judgment. Mentors and peer coaches understand that their responsibilities are not only to the individuals with whom they work, but the whole community.
Mentoring and coaching is a commitment of time and talent dedicated to improving education through the support of classroom teachers by positive interventions and assistance. Mentors and peer coaches recognize the importance of developing professional skills and knowledge of both new and veteran teachers. Mentors realize the need to attract and retain qualified and dedicated teachers who have the potential and aspirations to continue to grow professionally.
Mentors and peer coaches shall
- act in a manner which is ethical and competent.
- maintain the highest respect for the worth and dignity of all individuals regardless of race, color, creed, gender, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, political affiliation, or religious beliefs.
- deem all communications between the mentor and the teacher as confidential and shall not divulge the content of any form of communication without the permission of the teacher.
- help establish an atmosphere of trust and respect with the teacher.
- guide in positive ways that benefit the teacher and enhance classroom performance.
- advocate for the classroom teacher.
- encourage the wellness and growth of the teacher.
- aid the teacher in developing appropriate modes of self-reflection.
- champion due process and safeguard the appropriateness of supervisory relationships.
- notify the teacher of all information garnered officially which pertains to the performance of the teacher.
- aid teachers in recognizing when a transition to alternative career opportunities would benefit both the teacher and the profession.
