On the Asus EEE

By default, your Asus EEE should already be set up to print to the printer in your school’s library. The name reflects the building, the room location, and the printer model, such as

Hillside192.168.96.30hilllib4200
Southside192.168.230.128soulib5Si
Parkside192.168.220.93prklib4050
McLaughlin192.168.210.13mcllib8150

To print a document, select Print from the File menu, or hold down the Ctrl key and type a P to get to the dialog.

NOTE: You can change printer properties – such as changing the paper from portrait to landscape – by selecting Printer Settings under the File menu of OpenOffice, or by clicking the button right in the print dialog box.

Adding a Printer

  1. Make sure the networked printer is turned on.
  2. In the Settings tab, click the Printers icon, and the Printers window opens.
  3. Click Add. A wizard launches.
  4. To add a printer on your school’s network, select the Network Type of Other.
  5. Name the printer -- this must start with a letter, and can contain only letters, numbers and underscore characters. It helps to be descriptive of the specific printer you’re planning to add.
  6. Select the Connection as AppSocket/HP JetDirect (socket) if the network printer is a Hewlett Packard printer, or select Internet Printing Protocol (http)
  7. Depending on how your network is set up, you may be able to locate printers using the Scan button. If none show up, or not the right one, you will need to enter the IP address of the printing in the Path field.
  8. After clicking Next, you will need to set the printer model. If you have entered the IP address correctly the EEE should be select the manufacturer model and driver automatically. After selecting Next, you can try printing a test page.

NOTE: Networked printers in the school district should have the IP address listed on them. The format is usually four groups of 1-3 numbers, separated by dots: for example, 192.168.199.40

NOTE: If your laser printer has a tray & a manual feed, you may need to select the source of the paper, click on Properties and in the Output tab and select the correct Paper Source.
