Freak
the Mighty By Rodman Philbrick
A WebQuest for Linguistics I & II Designed by Liz Farrell Karen Schmidt
Introduction | Task | Process | Evaluation | Conclusion | Credits | Teacher Page Kevin was an extraordinary young man who had a vivid imagination. Together with his friend Max, they explored the fantasy world of King Arthur and the Round Table. Through their quests they battled real and imaginary challenges. Can the way one person lives his or her life have a lasting impact on others? Your task is to investigate various
areas regarding Kevin and his life.
You will be assigned one of four quests and your group will then
present to the class information collected through the research. Your group will then gather that
information in order to develop and write an article remembering Kevin for
the school newspaper. You will also create a coat of arms and give a group
oral presentation to your class. Through your quest you will have the
opportunity to act as an investigator regarding a certain area of Kevin’s
life. You will research your quest,
keeping detailed information. Each
group member will share their information with other members to develop a
newspaper article, an oral presentation and coat of arms celebrating Kevin’s
life. You will need to develop a bibliography of all sites
and materials used for your project. Be sure to note this information as you
complete your research! You will be assigned to a group of 4
students. Each group member will
receive one of the four quests listed below:
Quest #1- You will
investigate Morquio’s Syndrome. This is the disease that claimed Kevin’s
life. Explain the symptoms of the disease, life-long impact, and how it
affects Kevin and others in his life. Consider how Kevin overcame the
crippling affects of this disease. Also include how this disease would affect
others in general.
